Join us for our Sustainable Advanced Spearfishing Course in Cornwall!
Immerse yourself in the art of sustainable spearfishing with our comprehensive two to three day spearfishing course, meticulously crafted by National Spearfishing Champion Matt Hill and National freediving CMAS current record holder, and AIDA Master Instructor Oliver Cacioppo.
This unique experience combines theoretical insights, practical skills, and hands-on spearfishing experience from across the oceans of the world.

Course Overview
Day 1 - Freediving and Theory.
- Day 1 at Delphy Pool is a full day, covering both theory and practical sessions, where we practice our apnea freediving skills and are introduced to variable weight dives
- Learning advanced equalisation (EQ) techniques.
- GPS and navigational skills, both for shore and boat, can be covered if required.
- Advanced techniques in species tracking.
- A debrief and plan will be made for Day 2. Your progress, both in terms of speed and comfort, will determine the outline for Day 2. We move at your pace, with no pressure.
Day 2 - The Hunt
- Day 2 puts our techniques into practice in the sea, where our apnea freediving skills evolve with the use of spearguns, and the hunting begins.
- Whether the session will be by boat or from shore will be decided during the pre-course consultation. Boats are an additional cost (subject to fair weather and tide conditions) and are to be paid on the day
Day 3 - Mastering Spearfishing
- A full day at sea, putting our hunting techniques into practice, polishing and refining our apnea freediving skills with a speargun in hand.
- There’s potential for a cook-up, and with Matt, a cold beer to finish the day! A good opportunity to chat about how to approach deep water trips away To locations like Bali where Matt has anther school setup. Catching fish like Tuna, swordfish, dogtooth tuna and mahi Mahi amongst other species. The next steps awaits…
Course Fee: £600
The course package includes pool hire, training, and equipment if needed. If you have your own wetsuit, we recommend bringing it for a potentially better fit, although we provide them free of charge.
Requirements:
- Participants must be over 16 years old.
- Must be capable of swimming 500m unaided, min breath hold 1.30 at 15 metres, be confident and knowledgeable on rescues ideally you should be a Aida level 3 or equivalent.
- Completion of a self-declaration medical form is required (available upon request prior to booking).
Course Details:
- All courses are conducted in small groups to ensure optimal safety and teaching quality, with a maximum instructor-to-student ratio of 1:2.
- Courses starts in Bodmin, Cornwall.
- Daily sessions run from 9:30 am to approximately 4-6 pm.
- Boat dives are available for an additional charge, subject to weather and tide conditions.

Before booking this course you’ll need to have a half-hour consultation (£30) with Matt or Oli on request.
For this type of course we qualify the diver first and find out your needs and what you’d like to tackle first so we will tailor the course to your requirements strengths and weaknesses.
It’s maybe this depth of course is not yet right for you and more experience is needed in freediving or Eq etc.
Over the years many divers have assumed they’re past an intermediate course that is packed full of technique tips and tricks and could be cheaper and better value for where their current skill set is at.
We are not trying to put you off this course but variable weight drops in bad visibility in the UK and a in raging currents are not really going to be that fun.
We have lots of options to choose from. What you really need to think about is, what is going to make you a better all-round spearo for where you regularly hunt?
If your aim is you want to eat Tuna and progress to blue water abroad, then we are running a different type of course for you.
If you own a boat and are confident heading to deeper Cornish waters then we will tailor the course to this, However, if you are shore diving mainly but are eyeing up far-out wrecks and not sure how to tackle it we will advance your knowledge in these areas. It just needs to be thought about and planned to make what you are learning relevant for your future hunting.

- Old shoes or flip-flops for walking at dive sites.
- We offer free hire. However, a £50 deposit is collected on the course day to cover potential damages or loss. Refer to the detailed terms provided here.
